UNCOMFORTABLE POSES, A SOLO EXHIBITION BY MICHAEL SLUSAKOWICZ

Working predominately in painting, the artist usually produces work in sequential series. Slusakowicz creates constructed scenes that are often inspired by and sourced from real life settings, but are nevertheless rearranged in such a manner that they become borderline dreamscapes.

OPENING
15th of December 2024

ABOUT

The paintings combine dramatic, moody colour palettes with a realist approach, collages of multiple slivers of time, like flickers of a candlelit flame. His work captures feelings of uncertainty and anxiety using uneasy figures, distorted colours, and uncanny landscape elements, drawing the attention to the mental burdens brought on by many of the issues of the contemporary. His supernatural figures seem to navigate through the experience of being trapped between two worlds; the conscious and the unconscious.

His latest collection of paintings, enigmatically called Uncomfortable Poses, further explores his continuous interest in colour and mood. These spontaneously composed paintings interact with each other through key, tonality, colour and repeated imagery, allowing the viewer to create their own interpretation and interwoven narrative. As a result, there becomes a lot of space for the viewer to insert their own histories and ideas when appreciating these works, leading to a more personal experience.

Slusakowicz’s imagery often penetrates a veiled side of modern society; it searches for the pure core of humanity with its dark and bright aspects, its needs and desires, its braveness and fears.
